Animal Communication—What Is It?

Is there really such a thing? I’m always a little bit back and forth on this, even though I have my rescue animals and we do our best to communicate. Do I fully understand them? I’m still trying to work that out. They certainly seem to have a better understanding of me.

The interesting thing I want to share is that I had a real-life communication with Leo, who passed away a few weeks ago. Leo is my daughter’s dog—her companion, friend, and a beautiful family member who is sorely missed.

While he was sick, I had been saying a couple of Psalms for him: 8 and 30. I eventually decided to discontinue these two because I was already saying so many. I felt bad about that—it felt like letting go. I kind of just spoke to The Ether and said, “Leo, I’m sorry, but I know that you’re across the Rainbow Bridge. I’m stopping saying these Psalms, and you’re always in my heart anyway.”

And then… he came to me.

It was this beautiful vision of him sitting there, looking at me the way he always did—with that kind of smile and a “don’t you get it, girl?” kind of look. Then he started to paw me, just like he did when he wanted something.

I thought, “Hey, what does he want? What haven’t I provided? What’s he trying to tell me?”

Then he used his nose to herd me, the way he used to—as a herding dog. That’s when I realized what Leo was communicating: he was telling me it’s time to move forward. For me. For Katya.

To not let obstacles and grief block the good we can still provide.
To not let sadness be a reason to hold back our superpowers.

Whether I can really communicate with animals or not is still an open question. But to me, this felt like a real connection with a beautiful being who is now in another realm.

And now I know: all these beautiful animals and humans I’ve lost are very much still with me—in my heart, and meshed into my soul.
And that gives me great comfort.
